Abstract:
The article focuses on the significance of adopting a competence-based approach in teaching foreign languages at military higher education institutions. The author highlights that modern foreign language training for future military professionals emphasizes not only linguistic and socio-cultural knowledge but also the development intellectual and cognitive skills necessary for performing communicative and military-professional tasks through a of foreign language.
A key focus of the article is on developing cadets’ professionally oriented communication skills, which are particularly vital for effective interaction with servicemen from other countries. Achieving comprehensive foreign language proficiency requires the effective organization of the educational process within the military university setting.
The paper underscores the relevance of the competence-based approach as a transformative methodology for foreign language instruction. This approach aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering the development of competencies, professional and personal qualities, and practical experience, which together form the foundation of a specialist’s expertise.
The author analyzes the specifics of foreign language education for military students and identifies essential activities for implementing this approach. These include conducting needs analysis, promoting learner autonomy, designing differentiated instruction, providing pedagogical support, and emphasizing lifelong learning and self-development.
The article concludes that transitioning to a competence-based framework represents a shift toward activityoriented, outcome-focused education. This new paradigm enhances educational quality, enabling graduates of military universities to apply their competencies effectively in professional settings, thanksto the practical experience gained during their training.
