Abstract: A generalised model of materials behaviour during friction is presented. It represents a certain approach resulting from the unified theory of friction and deterioration. Based on the relevant literature and our research data, which includes the behaviour of Fe-C alloys during friction, the basic stages and reasons of the alloy operational stability are shown.
